The process of seeking the Court’s order to appoint you as a conservator is to protect and manage personal/financial matters of your loved one(s), because they are not able to do so alone. This person is also known as the conservatee. You and your spouse and your other child(ren) without disability can serve your child with the disability, also known at “the conservatee,” in this capacity. If you have absolutely no one, a private professional conservator or a county agency called a “public guardian or public conservator,” will be appointed after certain steps are taken to qualify them.
